Prediction League vs. the Group Chat Spreadsheet: What Changes

If your group has ever run a prediction pool, it probably looked like this: someone creates a spreadsheet before the tournament, everyone fills in their picks in a shared tab, and one person manually checks scores every week and updates a leaderboard column. It works, for a month.
Where the spreadsheet approach breaks down
Someone has to be the admin, forever. Every matchweek, someone checks results, enters them, recalculates points, and posts an update. Miss a week and the whole thing stalls — most pools die exactly here, not because interest dropped, but because the admin got busy.
Scoring gets inconsistent. Manual tallying means typos, forgotten matches, and arguments about whether a rule was applied the same way for everyone.
There's no real-time standings view. You find out where you stand when the admin posts an update, not the moment full time is blown.
It doesn't scale past a tournament. A spreadsheet works for a four-week group stage. A 38-matchweek league season is a different order of magnitude of manual upkeep, which is why almost no spreadsheet pool makes it past October.

The upgrade path is short
If your group already ran a tournament pool on a spreadsheet, moving to a proper league takes less effort than the spreadsheet did in week one: pick the competition, set the league to private, send the invite link. Everyone predicts, the table updates itself, and nobody has to volunteer to be the admin for six months.
