How to Start a Season-Long Prediction League With Friends

Most prediction pools die in October. Someone sets up a spreadsheet before the season, everyone fills it in for the first three or four matchdays, and then it quietly stops getting updated. Not because people lost interest in football, but because nobody wants to manually track scores, add up points, and chase people for their picks every single week.
A season-long prediction league fixes the actual problem: it needs to survive from matchday 1 to the final table with zero admin work for whoever set it up.
What a league actually needs to survive a full season
A structure that runs itself. Once a league is created, matches, scoring, and standings update automatically every matchday. Nobody needs to be the person who does the spreadsheet.
A group, not a leaderboard of strangers.Prediction leagues live or die on the social layer — bragging rights only work if you know who's ahead. A private league keeps it to your group, visible only to members, with join requests approved by the owner.
A season, not a single tournament.A one-off World Cup or Euros pool is fun for a month and then it's over. A season-long league covering the Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A, Ligue 1, Süper Lig, or the UEFA competitions keeps the group active for six-plus months.
Setting one up
- Pick your competition. Choose the single league your group actually follows, or a custom multi-competition scope if your friends split across leagues.
- Set visibility. Private leagues stay invite-only — no one outside your group sees standings, member stats, or predictions. Public leagues are open to anyone who wants to join.
- Invite your group. Owners and moderators get an invite link.
- Everyone predicts before kickoff.Predictions lock five minutes before each match starts, so there's no last-minute "I meant to change that" chaos.
Scoring that doesn't need explaining twice
Every match scores the same way, everywhere in the product — no owner has to configure or explain custom rules:

Keep the group together, not just the league
The groups that stick around all season are usually ones that already know each other — an old five-a-side team, a group chat that argues about football anyway, or last year's tournament pool that never quite closed down. If your group already ran a prediction pool before, bringing it back into a proper season-long league takes less setup than the spreadsheet version ever did.
